Inspiration & Background:

The Earth’s land and water-scapes, can reflect the traces of displacement and loss while at the same time symbolizing hope and opportunity. These traces however, are often lost, marginalized, or covered up by stories rooted in a worldview of separation between nature and culture. Can we be thoughtful stewards of the Earth without truly understanding that our storylines privilege certain experiences of places, but omit others?

We have been inspired by Lauret Savoy's Trace, winner of the 2016 American Book Award, to journey deeper into the understanding of our sense of individual and collective identity. In this Curation, we bring together those who seek to understand that identity is rooted in the reflection of places all around us - from the wild, to the rural, to the center of the city, and back.
