Caring for the Landscape – Ethics and Management Session at the 2011 AAG Conference

January 25th, 2011

At this year’s Association of American Geographers (AAG) Annual Conference in Seattle, Washington the AAG hosts a paper session titled Caring for the Landscape – Ethics and Management. Anja Claus, Organizational Coordinator at the Center for Humans and Nature, will present her Master’s Thesis work at this session entitled Chicago Wilderness: A Case Study in Ethics of Place. This presentation will speak to re-envisioning ethics to include respect for complexity and multiplicity of place and how this can be achieved in our urban centers. The paper specifically addresses how the consortium of Chicago Wilderness constructs a theoretical and actual moral ethos that supports the local development of an ethics of place. Other session presentations include: A difference-in-difference evaluation of urban vacant lot greening, crime, and health; and The Valles Caldera: recreationist’s perspectives on access and management. For more information please see paper abstract as well as the AAG conference website.
