The Ethics of Biodiversity Conservation

Botanic Garden - Terry Evans

"Botanic Garden" by Terry Evans

Since 2005, the Center has led the endeavor to develop a code of ethics for biodiversity conservation. To date, the project has resulted in five development workshops, two case studies, three formal publications, and a vast and active network of local alliances from around the world. In 2009, the Center will co-sponsor the workshop, “Keeping Nature Alive: The Biosphere Ethics Project and Brazil’s Local Agenda 21” at the World Social Forum, in collaboration with the Brazilian Ministry of Environment. This workshop will allow participants to explore the tensions between native peoples, protected areas and property rights, examples of successful regional action stemming from an international initiative, and the local and global actions affecting Amazonian forests.
