Center for Humans and Nature is a wood engraving by the contemporary artist Ansell Bray depicting a 19th century Makah Indian (Washington State) grouse rattle. The rattle was used during secular tribal ceremonies. This complex interfusion of the human and the natural-- artists and their material mediums, cultural meaning, social practice, and nature—forcibly express the Center’s mission to combine humans and nature in moral practice and civic responsibility.
