CHN Staff Highlights Ethical Issues in Emergency Planning and Response
Resiliency and the Ethics of Public Health Preparedness and Adaptation to Climate ChangeMarch 15th, 2010
On February 16-19, 2010 several hundred emergency management and public health professionals gathered in Atlanta for the 2010 Public Health Preparedness Summit, co-sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and several other health and security organizations. Center Director of Bioethics, Bruce Jennings, spoke at the conference on “Ethical Issues in Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response.” This presentation was based on an ethics guidance white paper written for the CDC by Jennings and co-author John Arras of the University of Virginia. This document will be published next fall as a special supplement to the CDC’s periodical Mortality and Morbidity Weekly Reports. Jennings is currently working with colleagues at CHN to extend this work to address ethical issues in the area of climate change adaptation and community resilience. For more information on the Summit see www.phprep.org.
