Shauna Lange
Intern, Global Responsibilities Program
Shauna is currently working to assist Global Program Director Kathryn Kintzele and CHN’s Senior Fellow J. Ronald Engel with the day-to-day operations of the Global Program and various Global Program projects including researching and reporting new developments in international environmental law. Primarily, Shauna conducts research towards the development of the publication on global ethics and governance.
Shauna was born in 29 Palms, California and moved to the Midwest with her family when her father completed his term with the United States Marine Corps.
Her interest in advocacy for the environment and educating others was apparent at a very young age. Growing up, Shauna spent a lot of time with friends and family visiting and learning about various national parks from the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore to Zion National Park in Utah. Exposure to these unique wonders left a lasting impression and a desire to ensure the sharing of these experiences with generations to come.
Shauna received her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Ball State University. Shauna worked as a licensed teacher in both Indiana and Nevada for four years. Teaching the various sciences in an inner-city low income area where the environment was a mere afterthought enhanced her interest and passion for environmental advocacy and resulted in the creation of various student groups focused on environmental education and protection. Acting as a teacher and advocate for students and families only further fueled her desire to have a positive global impact.
Shauna is finishing her last semester of law school at Valparaiso University Law, where she is studying international law. She has been actively involved in various organizations and teams during her law school experience including being a Top Ten Regional Competitor in the American Bar Association’s Negotiation Competitions in Detroit, Michigan and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and serving as Treasurer of the Student Bar Association. Shauna has also worked as a law clerk, research assistant, and summer associate for various law firms, attorneys, and corporations. She will graduate with her Juris Doctorate in May of 2012.
Shauna’s interests include environmental law, global ethics and governance, comparative constitutional law, and public international law.
